Due to the popularity of my Starbucks City Mugs collection entries, I am dedicating an entire page solely for it. It would now be easier for me to keep updating my collection with new ones and for other traders to find out how we can help each other.
As how all collection may have started, I had no intention of collecting mugs when I bought my very first, Cebu. I needed a souvenir as we were off to live in Bangkok. So the Cebu mug sat alone in our shelves for a while.
I saw an album of friends on Facebook who collect mugs, and they look pretty nice side by side with other mugs. An idea formed in my head. Since I am OC, I planned to stick to one series. The 2008 Global Series Mugs is perfect. There's the name of the city, plus an icon of what the city is famous for and it comes in these cool colors.
First, I started off with sticking to just the cities I visited. I posted an entry in my blog knowing I cannot do it alone and would need help. I got a positive response from a lady in the US willing to trade with me. She also convinced me to collect from all over not just the cities I've been to. This proved to be a good point because what if Starbucks would discontinue this series and come up with a new one. That would just ruin the uniformity of my collection, right?
The goal now is to collect as much mugs as I can. The progress is unbelievable. From the lone Cebu mug, I now have a total of 69 mugs.
I definitely had help - from my wonderful husband who picks up a mug or two from the cities he goes to for business trips, from my siblings whom I demand to buy for me when they are off traveling, and from my soul sister who volunteered to help me with my collection.
The world of trading begins. It seems promising. It is fun to meet fellow collectors across the globe.

THE WANT LIST:
There are almost 300 mugs released. It is not my intention to collect all just what I can.
IMPORTANT: I only collect mugs (regular sized one 16 oz., not the demitasse version or tumbler) from the Starbucks Global Icon Series started in 2008.
I used to collect only cities but now I am open to country or state mugs especially if they are given as gifts.

Hi there!
ReplyDeleteI'm in Vancouver, and I'd be happy to get you a mug! :-)
My husband and I just started collecting the mugs ourselves, and I mean JUST! We have 5! haha!
We just like them, and as much as it would be nice to get them from our own travels, we aren't that lucky, so we are getting them from friends and family!
If you'd like one from Vancouver, and wouldn't mind doing a trade, let me know! :-)
Dawn
Hey Dawn, thank you for your interest! It's great to hear from a fellow collector. Oh I would love to trade with you, too. Do you have access to other city mugs or just Vancouver?
ReplyDeleteI've mailed out two packages to the US and I am expecting two to get to me. I'm waiting to see how these would turn out. If no broken mugs then yay and I shall continue trading.
Irma, please let me know if any are broken because I will try to replace them!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Irma & Dawn, not sure if Dawn can see my post, but I was just in Vancouver this summer and that's when my collection started growing (LOVED VANCOUVER!!!)! You guys have the best drinking water I've ever had!!!! Anyway, we were on our way home before I realized there was a Vancouver Island. Are you able to get that? I'd be happy to trade for that with you. I'm in Chicago if you are interested in that mug. FYI Irma is a great trader & person!!!
ReplyDeleteDawn, I can also get you Boston, but if you're a Canucks' fan you might not want it!!!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the world of Starbucks mugs! We don't only collect mugs but also gain new friends from other countries through our trades. Good luck and enjoy the hunt!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jovet! Your collection with Marilyn is inspiring. oh and thank you for those great photos, too.
ReplyDeleteHi Irma! I'll check our local Starbucks and see if we have one. Will send it to you if we do. :)
ReplyDeleteMishel, there is Indianapolis!! Uy, na-excite. Hahaha!
ReplyDeleteGreat Blog Irma ...
ReplyDeleteI'm happy you contacted me, hopefully in the future we can have a trade!
(Belgian mugs for 3 Thai mugs? )
For all visitors: http://starbucksmugger.blogspot.com/
(current mug total: 137 ICON 2008 Series)
Thank you, Pieter! I'm good with 3 Belgian mugs for 3 Thai mugs. Let me know what you want. :-) Will tweet you as well.
ReplyDeleteHi Irma, I am also a collector. I am a flight attendant and I travel all over but mostly just in the United States. I started collecting a couple of years ago, but not seriously, and I gave most of mine away. Now that has changed. I currently own 28 mugs. Yes, not a lot. I would be interested in trading. I am in Hawaii right now and can possibly get the Hawaii one if you need it. Please let me know as I leave today. I have Thailand already but am interested in the other Thai mugs. Let me know. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am interested in Hawaii. Please do get it. I'll trade the other 4 city mugs with you. Thanky you for contacting me, Pamela Anne!
DeleteBy the way...we have something else in common, Christ is my Lord too. Yay! Good to meet you sister. Thanks for your blog.
ReplyDeleteIsn't He just amazing? So happy to meet you. Let's talk more!
ReplyDeleteIf someone is interested to trade Belgians or Germans, check out my blog!
ReplyDeletehttp://starbucksmugger.blogspot.com/
Can I advertise in your blog, too, Pieter? :-) There must be a way I can trade those Belgian mugs with you.
DeleteI can get you New York. NY for Thailand?
ReplyDeleteWow...that's odd. My name isn't coming up. This is Kate Kurtz from NY. Sorry about the gobboledeegook....
ReplyDeleteIt's strange. Thought you were spam. But you're real.:-) Yes Kate, I am willing to trade Thailand for New York. Please e-mail me at irmaloveslife@gmail.com so we can discuss this further.
DeleteGO IRMA!!!! FYI NO MUGS FROM GERMANY! Trip was a total bust for mugs. Didn't see any Starbucks. So disappointing!!!
ReplyDeleteMarsha, I am so sorry to hear that. Let's just look for other traders who can help us with Germany. Hope the trip went very well!
DeleteHi Irma,
ReplyDeleteI finally found time to email you back (actually, post on your blog). Thanks for finding me, and your kind words for my blog. It's so easy to find people these days with common interests (in our case, the mugs). I hope we can meet someday- and exchange some mugs!!! I just got my act together after FredOrange's "resurrection" and found you there and gave you a karma point. Good luck with the collection. I'm headed to Manila in June/July so if you're there let's keep in touch. I just might bring with me a Brazilian you'd want to meet. Cheers!
So good to hear from you, RJ. I love reading your blog. Update it, ha! And thank you for letting me know how to use the karma. I had no clue. I sent one your way. Yes, let's keep in touch!!
DeleteHi all and irma - I am a UK based collector so can trade any of the UK mugs - please let me know what you can trade :-)
