Watch What You Eat (Small Change #15)

Boy, this is a difficult entry to write about.

I love to eat. I ♥ food.

I like to eat depending on my mood. When I feel down, I look for comfort food. When I'm happy, I eat to celebrate. Yes, it's is emotional eating.

Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

- 1 Corinthians 10:31 NKJV

God is not pleased with how I eat. I am not glorifying him when I down on junk food. We may think God doesn't care about our food intake, but He does because He loves us.

Rule #1: Do not eat too much.

Gluttony is one of the seven capital sins. Anything excessive is harmful for us. Too much food will also lead to laziness and oversleeping.

We all know that overeating and eating the wrong kind of food cause obesity. It also results to drowsiness, laziness and dullness. Overeating will also lead to a financial problem. The money we could set aside for savings is used to buy food our body does not need.

Eating too much food will also hinder our spiritual growth, it goes against the wisdom and teaching of God's Word and may lead to a life of guilt, seared conscience and deadening of the heart to spiritual truth. Who would even think that overeating affects our spiritual life that way?

The Guidelines:

  • Do everything to the glory of God, including WHAT and HOW you eat.
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
- Colossians 3:17 NIV

  • Eat only what betters your life.

“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial.
“I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.
- 1 Corinthians 6:12 NIV

  • Restrain yourself! Don't stuff yourself!
When you sit to dine with a ruler,
note well what[a] is before you,
and put a knife to your throat
if you are given to gluttony.
- Proverbs 23:1-2

  • Don't let inactivity rob your strength.
A sluggard buries his hand in the dish;
he will not even bring it back to his mouth!
- Proverbs 19:24 NIV

  • Look to Christ for His help while avoiding tempting situations.
Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ,
and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.
- Romans 13:14 NIV

Tomorrow in my quiet time, I will include this prayer:

"Lord, may a lifestyle of physical fatigue, financial folly, spiritual deadening and the misuse of time not be true of me! Help me live my life in a better way - in Your way. Amen."
